Offered bachelor and master projects of our chair can be found on our website will be additionally presented on Monday, April 12 within the scope of the first seminar session.
In this seminar, you will learn and train scientific practices, and learn the state-of-the-art in different topics of Information Visualization, Visual Analytics, and Data Mining. Every participant selects a topic of his/her interest, e.g. related to a (planned) bachelor or master project/thesis. An in-depth literature review on the selected topic is performed and the results are presented and discussed in the plenum.
This seminar is highly recommended for students that seek to do their bachelor or master project/thesis in information visualization and visual analytics at our chair.
Participants will pick a topic related to information visualization / visual analytics research (1) from a pool of suggestions that will be provided or (2) according to their own interest, e.g. related to a planned project or thesis.
For their topic, the participants will give an overview of the state-of-the-art relevant to the topic in a presentation during the seminar (15-20 min) and a term paper (minimum 8 pages ACM style excluding references) due at the end of the seminar. The term paper is written mostly during the semester including an intermediate submission. During the semester we offer mandatory special sessions to improve scientific research skills.
Topic suggestions include, but are not limited to:
- Data and Information Security
- Virtual Reality Techniques
- Visual Analytics for Geo-related Data
- Visual Analytics for Time Series
- Text Analysis and Visualization | Topic Modeling
- Multi- and High-Dimensional Data
We encourage participants to propose topics of interest. There is no guarantee that students can work on their proposed topic. This depends on the availability of Ph.D. supervisors. If you want to propose your own topic, please contact one of the currently available Ph.D. supervisors that are listed on the member's page of our chair. Please check in advance whether your topic fits the research topics that are provided on the respective Ph.D. member pages.
Further details about the different topics are discussed in the first seminar session.
